Below is a list of tools and services that UITS uses in our daily operations and that are available to our IT community.

Device Information

Device Information is a security application developed by UITS that enables full-time IT professionals to find location and ownership information about devices on the UConn network. To perform a lookup, enter either an IP address, a MAC address, NetID, or hostname into the search box, and available information will be returned in a table. All usage is logged.

Eligibility: Full-time UConn IT professional

Access: Contact the Information Security Office at security@uconn.edu to be provisioned access. Only accessible on internal networks.

Jack Trace

This application enables It professionals to search by IP address and find the building, switch, room, and jack for a wired device. It can be run independently or as part of a Device Information search.

PXE Boot Server

UITS hosts a PXE server for fast and efficient operating systems deployment (OSD).

Eligibility: Full-time UConn IT professional participating in the UITS Managed Workstation program

Access: PXE network booting requires that select options are enabled in the BIOS, and for some systems, that the BIOS is upgraded before options are available.

  • Boot sequence: UEFI
  • Advanced boot options: Uncheck “enable legacy option”
  • System Configuration \ Integrated NIC: Check the “Enable UEFI Network Stack”
  • System Configuration \ Integrated NIC: Check the “Enabled w/PXE” bubble
